Martlets Fall to Portsmouth Abbey

In the final game of the tournament, Westminster played Portsmouth Abbey. After giving their best effort in the morning game, the Martlets got off to a slow start in this afternoon game. The Ravens looked to push the pace of the game and built out an early lead. Westminster felt the absence of one of our best defenders, Delia Lockwood ‘26, when Portsmouth’s post player began dominating in the paint. However, the Martlets countered with 6 points from Eva Rodgers ‘25 and found some success in slowing the Ravens transition offense thanks to a spark off the bench in the form of Parker Perillo ‘26. In the second half, Kaitlyn Buda ‘27 emerged as our most valuable player, scoring 11 points and securing several key rebounds. Gianna Monaco ‘27 also asserted herself on the defensive end and limited the scoring of Portsmouth’s point guard. In spite of a better second half, Westminster was never able to close in on Portsmouth’s lead. After the game, we were excited to learn that Lauren Neuman ‘25 had been selected to the Holiday All-Tournament Team. There was no doubt that Lauren deserved this acknowledgement after leading our team in all three games and displaying relentless grit and grace throughout the weekend.
